The exam60 questions, each with five options and one correct answer. The test is in English, and you take it from home. It lasts 120 minutes, in three timed parts. Scientific Thinking and Academic Literacy: 45 minutes. Biology and Chemistry: 35 minutes. Mathematics and Physics: 40 minutes. Each subject has 10 questions. At the end, 6 reserve questions take 12 extra minutes. They count only if a main question is cancelled. There are two rounds each year. Students in their second-to-last school year can sit it. Their score then counts only for the next year.65 multiple-choice questions with five options, in 65 minutes, all in English. You take it on a computer from home, watched online, at a time you choose. The parts: General Knowledge 2, Logical Reasoning 20, Biology 18, Chemistry 12, Physics and Mathematics 8, Ethics and Religious Culture 5. 7 backup questions count only if a question is faulty. No phones, calculators, tablets, books, notes or second monitor. You cannot leave the room after the ID check. The guidelines do not mention scrap paper or a pen. The paid simulator is for practice only: test questions will not come from it. Cattolica's Bolzano campus has its own separate test.60 multiple-choice questions in English, in 80 minutes. 36 are logic, problem solving and reading. 24 are science: biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics. You take it from home, watched online through ProctorExam. Every video is checked afterwards. You need two devices. A laptop runs Chrome with the ProctorExam plug-in. A phone or tablet runs the ProctorExam app, placed behind you. You may use two sheets of blank paper and a pen. No calculator, headphones, books or notes. Sit alone in a room with one door, and do not leave it for any reason. 7 reserve questions at the end count only if a main question is cancelled. If the platform fails, you may get a spare session. The call does not say how many options each question has. From 5 days before, you get instructions to check your set-up. The call describes no practice test. Students with a disability or learning difference can ask for extra time (50% or 30%), a basic calculator and a helper who reads or writes.60 multiple-choice questions, each with five options, all in English. There are 20 Biology, 20 Chemistry and 20 Physics questions. There is no logic section. The test lasts 100 minutes. You sit it in person in Rome, on one date. Questions are drawn at random from the university's own archive. No phones, calculators, books or notes. Medicine and Surgery and MedTech are separate courses, both taught in English. You register and pay once for each course. Registering opens an official online simulator of the test. Students with a certified disability or learning difference can get up to 50% more time.
ScoringFor Medicine, a right answer earns 22 points in Scientific Thinking and Academic Literacy. It earns 16 in Biology and Chemistry, and 10 in Mathematics and Physics. A wrong answer loses a quarter of those points. A blank scores 0. The total is out of 960. To be ranked, you need 192 in total. You also need 88, 64 and 40 in the three parts. MEDTEC uses the same test with the points reversed: Mathematics and Physics earn 22 a question. You get two tries, one in each round. Your better result counts. If you sit both sessions, your better score counts. The call sets no minimum score and gives no past cut-off. Ties go to logic and problem solving, then reading, biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics. After that, the youngest candidate wins. You see your score after each session. The final ranking comes within 15 days of the last session. The definitive ranking, without names, came by 30 June 2026. You pay EUR 8,000 plus the tax at enrolment, then two payments of EUR 5,500. The first payment comes back only in these cases: if you do not get your school diploma in 2025/26; if you enrolled with conditions and lose your place because the ministry cuts places; or if you get the UCBM scholarship after another winner withdraws. If a scholarship is not accepted by 4 March 2026, it passes to the next candidate, and enrolled candidates with an ISEE below EUR 28,000 may get the first payment back. Otherwise, fees are not refunded. There are two merit scholarships, one per course. The top-ranked winner with an ISEE (Italian family income index) up to EUR 28,000 pays half the fee for six years, on the second and third payments. To keep it, you must earn enough credits each year and keep an average of at least 27/30.
Who can applyYou can sit the test at most twice per cycle, once in each round. You can apply with a diploma or in your final school year. In your second-to-last school year, you can sit it for the next year's entry. Non-EU route with a diploma from abroad? At enrolment, bring a copy translated into Italian and legalised by the Italian consulate. Add a Dichiarazione di Valore (the consulate's statement of what your diploma is worth). You must be at least 17 at enrolment. Enrolling at 17? You need a legal guardian living in Italy for the study visa. The university cannot provide one. You need at least 12 years of school, and a diploma or to be in your final year. With a medicine degree from abroad, you cannot apply. At enrolment, bring your diploma with a Dichiarazione di Valore (the Italian consulate's statement of what your diploma is worth). Also bring a hepatitis B vaccination certificate and a Mantoux TB test no older than 3 months. Non-EU students from abroad need a type D study visa. Catholic students bring a baptism certificate. Other students bring a certificate of an interview with a Pastoral Assistant. This is due within 3 months of lessons starting. Students with a disability get 50% more time, and with a learning difference 30% more. You can apply in your final school year or with a diploma. Students in their second-to-last school year cannot apply. Holders of an LM-41 degree cannot apply. This route is for Italian and EU citizens, and non-EU citizens living legally in Italy. Non-EU applicants living abroad have a separate call. This call is for students who have a diploma, or who finish school in 2025/26. If you finish school later, look for a later call. You need at least 12 years of school. With 10 or 11 years, you also need 1 to 2 years of passed university study. A diploma from abroad needs a Dichiarazione di Valore or a CIMEA comparability certificate. There is one test date a year, and you can compete for both courses. After enrolment, a test checks core subjects. Below 60% in a subject, you take extra courses in your first year.
EnglishYou need a B2 English certificate to enrol. If you pass the HUMAT, you do not need it.You need it to enrol, not to sit the test. Accepted: IELTS Academic 6.0 or higher, TOEFL iBT 80 or higher, or Cambridge First (FCE) at grade B or higher. Did your school teach mainly in English? Official proof of that is enough. You need an official C1 English certificate to enrol, not to sit the test. Without it, you cannot enrol and you lose your place. UniSR lists the accepted certificates on its website. You do not need one if your last two years of high school were taught entirely in English. Two years in a row of college entirely in English also count. You need B2 English, shown by a certificate on UCBM's list. Examples: IELTS 5.5 to 6.5, TOEFL iBT 46 to 93, or Cambridge B2 First. Attach it before you pay the fee: the application locks when you pay. No certificate yet? You can still sit the test, marked with an asterisk. In 2026 you then had to upload one between 20 March and 19 June, 13:00. Without it, you are left out of the final ranking. A full year at a school or university taught entirely in English also counts.

Questions

Questions about choosing

Can I apply to more than one school?

Yes. They are separate universities, so you register, pay and sit a separate test for each. Check each school's dates before you register, so your tests do not clash. Applying from abroad? Check the study visa and pre-enrolment rules (Universitaly) with each school before you pay more than one.
