Cattolica Rome: logic

Our sample

A class has 30 students. 18 study biology and 15 study chemistry. 5 students study neither. How many study both?

Tap an answer to see the explanation.

Show the answer

The answer is C: 8.

  • A) Wrong. The trap: 33 − 30 = 3 forgets the 5 students who study neither.
  • B) Wrong. 5 is the number who study neither subject, not both.
  • C) Right. 5 study neither, so 25 study at least one. 18 + 15 = 33 counts the students who study both twice. 33 − 25 = 8.
  • D) Wrong. 10 would mean only 23 study at least one subject. But 25 do.
  • E) Wrong. 13 is 18 − 5: it mixes the biology students with the ones who study neither.

Cattolica

Your Cattolica questions, answered

Is this the IMAT, or Cattolica's Bolzano test?

Neither. Cattolica runs its own test for its English medicine course in Rome. Cattolica's Bolzano campus has its own separate test. This guide covers Rome only.

How do I apply to Cattolica Rome, step by step?

You apply yourself: we are not an agent, and we do not apply for you.

  1. Apply and pay the fee on time. A late payment means no test: see the test fee.
  2. Check your computer before the test. You take it from home, watched online: see the exam.
  3. Sit the test, on the one day. There is no second round.
  4. Check the ranking for your route, EU or non-EU.
  5. Pay the deposit by the deadline to confirm a place: see the fees.
  6. At enrolment, bring your documents: see who can apply.

What score gets a place?

In 2026, 709 EU candidates were listed in the ranking, and 689 of them reached the 20-point minimum. The 40th EU place scored 58 of 65. On the non-EU route, 713 were listed and 687 reached the minimum, and the 70th place scored just over 54. These were first-ranking lines: offers then moved down the list. Read the 2026 score lines.

Do questions from the official simulator come up?

No. The paid simulator is for practice only: test questions will not come from it. So use it to understand, not to memorise.

Can non-Catholics apply?

Yes. The certificate is an enrolment document, not part of your score. Catholic students bring a baptism certificate. Other students bring a certificate of an interview with a Pastoral Assistant. This is due within 3 months of lessons starting.

Do I need an English certificate?

You need it to enrol, not to sit the test. Accepted: IELTS Academic 6.0 or higher, TOEFL iBT 80 or higher, or Cambridge First (FCE) at grade B or higher. Did your school teach mainly in English? Official proof of that is enough.

When is the 2027/28 test?

Not published yet. Last year (2026): Applications ran from 15 October 2025 to 18 February 2026, for EU and non-EU candidates. The test was on 25 March 2026, with an extra session on 26 March if needed. Marked tests could be viewed from 14 April. The EU ranking came out on 21 April, and the non-EU ranking on 28 April. We update this page when Cattolica publishes its new guidelines.

Applying from outside the EU?

In 2026: 40 EU places and 70 non-EU places. Non-EU places are for non-EU citizens living abroad. Non-EU students from abroad need a type D study visa. Applying from abroad? Check the study visa and pre-enrolment rules (Universitaly) with each school before you pay more than one.

A blank scores 0. The maximum is 65. You need at least 20 of 65 to be eligible. Ties go to logic first, then biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics, general knowledge and ethics. After that, the younger candidate wins. Below 7 of 18 in biology, 5 of 12 in chemistry, or 2 of 4 in physics or maths, you take extra courses in your first year.
